ICFJ Innovation lead trainer

Since 2022, I have led innovation and technology training at the International Center for Journalists. This program has enabled over 90 journalists worldwide to find solutions at the intersection of design methodologies and technology for journalism.

The training is an adaptation of various design methodologies that I have iterated over two years, following the application of surveys to participants. Participants learn about prototyping, storyboards, usability, and interface design principles. 94% of the participants reported feeling ready to use design methodologies in their newsrooms after the training. Some of the participants include VOX USA, The AP, and Mutate in Colombia.

In December 2024, I led an in-person Design Sprint in Istanbul, where eight teams focused on tackling misinformation. As the lead facilitator for this sprint, I faced the challenge of helping 25 participants focus in understanding their audience, sketching and prototyping their ideas, and testing their products with real users. One adaptation I developed for this purpose is the Deep Audience Canvas, which combines elements of the Business Model Canvas and a user persona template. You are welcome to review and reuse it.
